Polar bears are one of the world's most recognizable animals and among the first to become endangered because of the threats of global warming. The chief threat is loss of ice habitat which the bears use as hunting platforms. As climate change melts sea ice, the US Geological survey projects that two-thirds of polar bears will disappear by 2050, a dramatic decline that is occurring in our lifetime. "I wanted to capture the power the ice bear as it moves gracefully across the Arctic landscape," said Wyland. "These animals face certain, dire challenges, but our ability to recognize their majesty could very well be the thing that saves them."
