Wyland’s Art Studio continues to be one of the most popular art instructional series on public television. During the show’s fifth season, Wyland created a range of subjects to expand the skills of emerging artists across the nation. His engaging portrait of an endangered green sea turtle is a classic study of Wylands timeless undersea art technique.
“These animals have a rich color palette for an artist,” Wyland says. “The shell can be a blend of different colors, ranging from brown, olive, gray or black. The head has beautiful brown and yellow markings, while the underside of their bodies is a vibrant yellow. They are simply extraordinary creatures, but like many of the great sea turtles they face many threats due to habitat loss, development along the coasts and changing climate.”
